Summer is coming to an end. Late nights have turned into early school nights. A restful night's sleep can help you and your student be more productive, feel better physically and emotionally, and have more energy. Here are some tips to a great night's sleep.
Stick to a regular sleep schedule – Go to bed at the same time every night and get up the same time everyday.
Sleep in a cool, dark room.
Turn off the TV – The light can stimulate your mind rather than relax it.
Exercise regularly.
Relax – Try deep breathing. Close your eyes and take deep, slow breaths.
Avoid heavy meals or snacks, sugary treats, and caffeine close to bedtime.
If you have a history of trouble sleeping, try one of these sleep promoting snacks a few hours before bedtime:
- Half of a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread
- A small bowl of whole grain, low sugar cereal with milk
- Yogurt with granola
- A banana with peanut butter
