Welcome back to our All Foods Fit series! As part of our All Foods Fit campaign and nutrition philosophy, we’re exploring a variety of components related to food: Fuel, Culture, Exploration, Togetherness, and Enjoyment.
All Foods Fit means there are no “good” or “bad” foods. We eat many different foods for many different reasons — to keep us nutritionally balanced, provide the opportunity to explore other cultures and flavors, and allow us to create long-lasting memories and enjoy the dining experience.
Let’s talk about how food encourages us to explore!
An important element of food is it allows us to experience the world around us. Food exploration provides countless opportunities to expand our palates, learn about other cultures, and challenge our taste buds — whether it’s trying a new dish at a local restaurant, enjoying authentic cuisine while traveling in a different country, or even creating a recipe with ingredients you’ve never used before.
And you don’t need to go far to explore foods, flavors, or cooking techniques — it can be done at home, right in your kitchen! Following or creating a recipe teaches different cooking methods and helps sharpen those culinary skills. Spending time in the kitchen can also boost creativity, confidence, and self-esteem. It’s a great feeling to make a delicious dish and see your family or friends enjoy your As you eat, tune into your senses and see what you notice. How does it feel? Smell? Is it warm or cold? Sweet or savory? Stay curious around food, and it’ll lead to fun eating experiences!
SAGE encourages community members to explore new foods by bringing unique experiences right to the dining hall. Our Seasonings® stations offers exciting variety, such as create-your-own dishes and special events and holiday options. We also present Educational Seasonings, an interactive monthly program that incorporates history, culture, and culinary topics. Communities can learn all about the featured topic of the month and try new dishes or ingredients.
Through food, we can discover more than we ever thought possible! Try stepping out of your comfort zone — what foods would you like to try?
Stay tuned for our next All Foods Fit blog where we’ll explore how food brings people together!
