Hi there! Welcome back to our “On the Road with RDs” series. COVID-19 may keep our Registered Dietitians from traveling, but their education in the wide world of nutrition continues virtually. We’re checking in with Nutrition Director and Registered Dietitian Lesley Vogel as she shares the takeaways from her latest learning adventure!
In November, I had the pleasure of attending the FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) College Summit. I attended a variety of sessions and learned about college food service best practices from students with multiple food allergies, lawyers who specialize in food allergy cases, supply chain managers, and experts in designing menus and processes to meet the needs of college students with food allergies!
Although I missed the opportunity to meet with other food allergy-focused professionals face to face, attending conferences virtually has its benefits, too — namely not having to deal with traffic or parking at conference venues and being able to rewatch recorded sessions to notice anything I missed the first time around. I’m grateful for the opportunity to attend this event and walked away with new ideas for our college dining programs as well as our K-12 communities. I look forward to implementing these ideas and continuing to make community members with food allergies feel safe and included.
